Away from the city, execution shapes design as much as taste does. Material availability, the local workforce's familiarity with a detail, water for construction, power and the practicality of frequent site visits all belong in the specification conversation. A detail that is routine in Bangalore can be impossible two hours out, and it is far better to know that at drawing stage than on site.
The higher ground through much of this district gives a genuinely pleasant climate for a large part of the year. A building designed to use it — deep shade, cross-ventilation, generous verandahs — is comfortable for most of the year with very little mechanical cooling.
